Marguerite Bay is a body of water located in the Antarctic Peninsula region of Antarctica. It is bordered by the Antarctic mainland to the east and the Graham Land Peninsula to the west. The bay is approximately 250 km (155 mi) long and 140 km (87 mi) wide, and has a maximum depth of about 1,000 m (3,280 ft).
Marguerite Bay was first discovered by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition of 1897-1899, led by Adrien de Gerlache. The bay was named after Marguerite de Gerlache, the wife of the expedition's leader. In the early 20th century, the British Graham Land Expedition, led by John Rymill, explored the area and conducted scientific research.
In the 1940s, the British Operation Tabarin established a base in the area, which was later taken over by the Chilean Navy and renamed Base General Bernardo O'Higgins. The base was used as a research station until the late 1990s, when it was abandoned.
