Santa Marta is a city located in the Magdalena Department of Colombia. It is the capital of the department and the oldest city in Colombia, founded in 1525 by Rodrigo de Bastidas. Santa Marta is situated in the northern part of the country, on the Caribbean Sea and near the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range, the highest coastal mountain range in the world.
