Rakahanga Atoll is an island in the Cook Islands, located in the northern part of the South Pacific Ocean. The atoll is made up of two islets, Rakahanga and Manihiki, and is approximately 845 kilometers (524 miles) northeast of the main island of Rarotonga. It is part of the Northern Group of islands and is a coral atoll with a lagoon in the center.

Rakahanga is the larger of the two islets and is home to the majority of the island’s population. The island is about 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) long and 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) wide, with a total area of 3.2 square kilometers (1.2 square miles). Its highest point is about 13 meters (43 feet) above sea level. The island is surrounded by a coral reef and has a few small beaches.

The island’s population is small, with only about 300 people living there. Most of the population is of Polynesian descent and the main language spoken on the island is English.

Rakahanga has a long and interesting history. It was first settled by Polynesians in the 12th century, and it was a major trading center for the region. In the 18th century, the island was visited by Captain James Cook and his crew. In the 19th century, the island became an important stopover for whaling ships and was a major source of copra, a type of coconut oil.

Today, Rakahanga is a popular tourist destination, with visitors coming to enjoy its beautiful beaches, snorkeling, and other activities. The island is also home to a number of archaeological sites, including a stone temple and a traditional village.
