Fulanga is an island located in the Lau Group of the Fiji Islands. It lies approximately 150 miles east of the main island of Viti Levu and is one of the most remote islands in the archipelago. The island is about 6 miles long and 4 miles wide and is covered in dense tropical rainforest.
Fulanga is home to a small population of around 500 people who are mostly subsistence farmers. The island is divided into two main villages, Fulanga and Tamana. The main language spoken in the villages is Fijian, although English is also widely spoken.
The island is surrounded by coral reefs and is a popular destination for snorkeling and scuba diving. The waters around the island are home to a wide variety of marine life, including hawksbill turtles, manta rays, and reef sharks.
Fulanga has a rich history and was an important trading post in the 19th century. It was also a site of a major battle in 1843 between the Tongan and Fijian forces. The battle resulted in the Tongan victory and the island remained under Tongan control until 1874 when it was ceded back to Fiji.
Today, Fulanga is a popular tourist destination and is known for its pristine beaches, lush rainforest, and diverse wildlife. The island is also home to a number of archaeological sites, including ancient temples and burial grounds.
Fulanga is a beautiful and remote island in the Fiji Islands and is a great destination for those looking for a tropical paradise. With its rich history, diverse wildlife, and stunning beaches, it is no wonder why Fulanga is such a popular destination.
