Corsica is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea and is part of the French Republic. It is located southeast of the French mainland, northwest of the Italian Peninsula, and just north of the Italian island of Sardinia. The island is approximately 186 miles long and 83 miles wide and has a population of over 330,000 people.

Corsica is known for its beautiful scenery, with its rugged coastline of steep cliffs, sandy beaches, and turquoise waters. The interior of the island is characterized by mountains, valleys, and forests. Corsica is home to some of Europe’s highest peaks, including Monte Cinto and Monte Renoso.

In the 5th century, the island was invaded by the Vandals, who were later replaced by the Byzantines. In the 8th century, the island was conquered by the Saracens and then by the Genoese in the 13th century.

In 1768, the island was annexed by France and it became part of the French Republic in 1789. During the French Revolution, Corsica was a major center of resistance and in 1793, the island declared its independence. However, in 1796, the French regained control of the island and it has remained part of France ever since.
