South Cape

South Cape is a cape located in the southeastern corner of Greenland. It is located on the eastern shore of the Davis Strait, which is a body of water that separates Greenland from Canada. The cape is approximately 1,400 kilometres (870 miles) from the Arctic Circle.

South Cape is a strategically important location and has been the site of many historical events. In 1721, the first permanent European settlement in Greenland was established at South Cape. It was a Danish trading post and was the main trading post in Greenland for many years. In 1845, the first mission station in Greenland was established at South Cape. The mission was established by the Moravian Church and it was the first Christian mission in Greenland.

In 1867, the South Cape Treaty was signed at South Cape between the United States and Denmark. The treaty allowed the United States to purchase Greenland from Denmark. The treaty was never ratified, however, and the purchase never went through.

In World War II, South Cape was the site of a major battle between the Allies and the Germans. The battle was fought in April of 1945 and was known as the Battle of South Cape. The Allies were victorious and the battle marked the end of German occupation of Greenland.

South Cape is a remote and isolated location, with no permanent settlements. It is known for its spectacular scenery and is a popular destination for hikers and adventurers. The area is also known for its rich wildlife, including polar bears, walruses, and seals.
