Thule

Thule is a small settlement located in the northernmost part of Greenland and is the world's northernmost permanent settlement. The settlement is situated between the Arctic Ocean and the North Atlantic Ocean, lying just 817 km from the North Pole.

Thule was first discovered by the Inuit people in the 10th century, who named it Thule after the mythical land of the same name. The Inuit people were the first to inhabit the settlement and they lived there until the 18th century when the Danish colonization of the area began.

The settlement was first visited by Europeans in the 1700s and was used as a base for whaling and trading. During World War II, the US military established an air base in Thule and it was used as a refueling stop for aircrafts crossing the Atlantic.

In the 1950s, Thule was used as a base for the US and Danish military during the Cold War and it was also used as a launching site for missiles. The base was closed in the 1990s and the settlement is now mainly a fishing village.

Thule is home to a number of important historical sites, such as the Thule Air Base, the Thule Museum, and the Thule Trading Post. The Thule Air Base is a former US military base that was closed in the 1990s and is now a museum. The Thule Museum is dedicated to the history of the Inuit people and the Thule Trading Post is a trading post that was established by the Danish in the 1700s.

Thule is a unique settlement in Greenland and it is home to a rich cultural and historical heritage. It is a great place to visit and explore the history of the Inuit people, the Danish colonization of the area, and the Cold War.
