Trujillo is a city and municipality located in the Honduran department of Colón, on the northern Caribbean coast of Central America. It is the capital of the department and is situated on a small bay at the mouth of the river of the same name. The city is located at an elevation of 10 meters (33 ft) above sea level, with an average temperature of 26 °C (79 °F).

Trujillo was founded in 1524 by the Spanish conquistadors. It was named after the Spanish city of Trujillo, which was the birthplace of Hernán Cortés. The city was a major port during the colonial era and was the site of several important battles during the Spanish-American War. As a result of its strategic importance, the city was declared a National Monument in 1973.

Trujillo is home to many historic sites, including the ruins of the old Spanish fort, Castillo de Santa Barbara, which was destroyed by the British in 1797. The city also features a number of colonial-era churches, including the Iglesia de San Francisco, which dates back to 1572.
