Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the southeastern coast of the island. With a population of over 937,000, Kingston is the third largest English-speaking city in the Americas. The city is a major financial, cultural, and commercial center of the Caribbean, and is often referred to as the "cultural capital" of the region.

Geographically, Kingston is located at the head of Kingston Harbour, a deep natural harbour that provides protection to the city and its port. The city is bordered by the Blue Mountains to the east, and is at the center of the Greater Kingston Metropolitan Area, which comprises the cities of Portmore, St. Catherine, and St. Andrew.

In the 19th century, Kingston was the site of several major battles during the Maroon Wars, as well as the Morant Bay Rebellion. The city was also the capital of Jamaica during the British colonial period, and has served as the country's administrative capital since Jamaica's independence in 1962.
