Hiroshima is a major city in Japan located in the southwestern part of Honshu, the largest of Japan’s main islands. It is the capital of Hiroshima Prefecture, and the largest city in the Chugoku region of western Honshu. It is best known as the site of the first atomic bomb attack in history, which occurred on August 6th, 1945.

Hiroshima is situated on the delta of the Ota River, flowing into the Seto Inland Sea. The city is surrounded by mountains on three sides, and the city center lies on the delta plain. Hiroshima has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters.

Hiroshima has a long and rich history. During the Nara period, it was an important port of call for the Imperial Japanese Navy. In the Edo period, it was the seat of the powerful Mori clan. The city was rebuilt after the war, and today it is a vibrant, modern city.
