IJmuiden is a town located in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It is situated on the North Sea coast, at the entrance to the North Sea Canal. The town is part of the municipality of Velsen, and is located about 30 km northwest of Amsterdam.

IJmuiden is a port town, and the main port of the Netherlands. It is the largest fishing port in the country, and is also an important industrial center. The port is used for both commercial and recreational activities, and is home to the Netherlands' largest fishing fleet.

The town has a long history, with evidence of settlement as far back as the Iron Age. In the Middle Ages, IJmuiden was an important trading center and a major port of the Dutch East India Company. During the 19th century, the port saw major expansion, and it was the site of the first Dutch dry dock.

In World War II, IJmuiden was heavily bombed by the Germans, and the town was almost completely destroyed. After the war, the town was rebuilt, and the port was expanded to accommodate larger vessels.
