Tuam Island

Tuam Island is a small island located off the coast of Papua New Guinea. It is a part of the Bismarck Archipelago and is located approximately 90 kilometers east of mainland New Guinea. It is approximately 5 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide, making it the smallest island in the archipelago.

The island is home to a small population of approximately 500 people, most of whom are subsistence farmers. The main crops grown on the island are bananas, coconuts, and taro. Fishing is also an important part of the economy, with the surrounding waters providing a great abundance of fish and other sea life.

The island has a long and rich history that dates back to the early 1800s. It was first visited by Europeans in 1836, when it was visited by the French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville. It was then visited by the British explorer and missionary John Geddie in 1875, who established a mission on the island.

During World War II, the island was occupied by Japanese forces. After the war, the island was administered by Australia until 1975 when it became part of the newly independent Papua New Guinea.

Today, Tuam Island is a popular tourist destination. It is known for its beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, and unique culture. It is also home to a number of archaeological sites, including the remains of ancient villages and burial sites.
