Plymouth is a city located on the south coast of Devon in England. It is situated between the mouths of the rivers Plym and Tamar, which form the boundary between Devon and Cornwall. Plymouth is the largest city in the county of Devon and the second largest city in the South West region of England. It is a major port city and a centre for marine and defence industries.

The city has a long history, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Bronze Age. It was an important port during the Roman and medieval periods, and was the home port of the Pilgrim Fathers who set sail for the New World in 1620. During the English Civil War, Plymouth was the base of the Royalist Navy.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Plymouth became an important naval base and shipbuilding centre, and was heavily involved in the Napoleonic Wars. During the Second World War, Plymouth was heavily bombed by the German Luftwaffe, and much of the city was destroyed.

Today, Plymouth is a vibrant city with a rich maritime history. It has a large student population, and a thriving cultural scene. There are a number of attractions, including the National Marine Aquarium, the Barbican, the Mayflower Steps and the Hoe. The city also has a number of parks and gardens, including the Plymouth Arboretum and the Central Park.
