The Southern Orkney Islands are a group of small islands located in the Southern Ocean off the coast of Antarctica. The archipelago is situated between the Weddell Sea and the Scotia Sea, approximately 890 km (553 mi) northeast of the Antarctic mainland. The islands are part of the British Antarctic Territory and are the most northerly group of islands in the Antarctic region.

The Southern Orkney Islands are composed of two main islands, Coronation Island and Signy Island, and several smaller islands, including Laurie Island, Powell Island, and Brown Island. The islands have a total land area of approximately 55 km² (21 mi²). The climate is cold and windy with temperatures ranging from -10°C (14°F) in summer to -20°C (-4°F) in winter.
