Cascade

Cascade is a small town located in the state of Victoria, Australia, situated on the banks of the Cascade Creek. It is located about 100 km northeast of Melbourne, the capital of Victoria.

The town was initially established in the mid-1800s as a gold mining settlement, and was known as the first gold-bearing town in Victoria. Gold was discovered in the area in 1851, and by 1854, the town had grown to a population of over 3,000. The town quickly became a major centre of gold production and gold-related industry, and by the late 1800s it had become one of the largest gold-producing towns in the state.

In the early 1900s, the town was home to a number of industries, including a sawmill, a tannery, a brewery, and a brickworks. The town also had its own railway station, which was opened in 1877.

Today, Cascade is a small rural town with a population of around 400 people. It is a popular tourist destination, with many visitors coming to visit the historic gold mining sites, as well as to enjoy the picturesque views of the surrounding countryside.

Cascade is also home to a number of historical buildings, including the old Cascade Hotel, which was built in 1866, and the old Cascade Post Office, which was built in 1873. Other attractions include the Cascade Museum, which was opened in 1996, and the Cascade Creek Historic Reserve, which was established in 1998.
