Amber Cove is a port of call located in the Dominican Republic, on the Caribbean Sea. It is situated in the northern province of Puerto Plata, approximately three miles from the city of Puerto Plata. The port is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Dominican Republic to the south.
Originally, the area was known as Maimon Bay, named after Christopher Columbus’s pilot, Bartolomeo Columbus. It was later renamed Puerto Plata, meaning “silver port”, by the Spanish Conquistadors. During the 19th century, the area was an important port of call for ships travelling between Europe and the Caribbean, and it was also the site of a major battle between the Spanish and English in 1798.
Today, Amber Cove is a popular tourist destination, offering a variety of activities and attractions. Visitors can explore the nearby beaches, take part in water sports, or visit the nearby Fort San Felipe, a 16th-century fort built by the Spanish. There are also a number of historical sites, such as the ruins of San Felipe Fortress and the Amber Museum, which houses artifacts from the area’s colonial past.
