Uunartoq

Uunartoq is an uninhabited island located in the Kujalleq municipality of Greenland. It is situated in the southern part of the country, near the mouth of the Nordre Strømfjord. The island is roughly circular in shape, with a diameter of about 3 km (1.9 mi).

Uunartoq is known for its hot springs, which have been used for centuries by the Inuit people for bathing and healing. The hot springs are located at the northern end of the island and are made up of several pools of hot water. The temperature of the water ranges from 80 to 100 degrees Celsius (176 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit).

The island has a long history, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the 7th century. The Inuit people used the island as a hunting ground, and the first Europeans to visit the island were Dutch explorers in the 17th century.

In the 19th century, Uunartoq was used as a base for whaling ships. The island also served as a stopover for ships traveling between Europe and North America. In 1884, the island was used as a base for the first successful attempt to cross Greenland by airship.

Today, Uunartoq is a popular tourist destination. Visitors come to the island to experience its natural beauty and hot springs. The island can be reached by boat from the nearby town of Nanortalik.
