Ternate is a small island in the Maluku Islands of Indonesia, located in the Halmahera Sea off the western coast of the larger island of Halmahera. It is the largest city in the province of North Maluku and the administrative capital of the Ternate Regency. The island covers an area of 538 square kilometers, and is home to a population of over 140,000 people.
