Molde

Molde is a city and municipality in the county of Møre og Romsdal in Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Romsdal, and is the administrative center of the municipality. It is located on the Romsdal Peninsula, at the mouth of the Romsdalsfjord. The city is located about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the popular tourist destination of Ålesund.

Molde has a population of about 27,000 people, making it the largest city in the region. It is known as the "City of Roses" due to the large number of rose gardens in the city. The city is also home to the Molde Jazz Festival, one of the largest jazz festivals in Europe.

Molde is situated on the northern shore of the Romsdalsfjord, and is surrounded by mountains on three sides. The municipality covers an area of approximately 514 square kilometers (199 square miles). The highest point in the municipality is the peak of Storehornet, which is 1,564 meters (5,128 feet) above sea level.

Molde has a long history, and was first mentioned in written records in 1196. In 1660, the city was destroyed by a major fire, but was quickly rebuilt. In 1742, the city was declared a "free and open city" by King Christian VI of Denmark-Norway, and it was granted a royal charter in 1742.

In 1940, during the Second World War, the city was bombed by the German Luftwaffe. The city was rebuilt after the war, and today is a vibrant and modern city.
