Mayreau

Mayreau is one of the smaller islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, located between the larger islands of Canouan and Union Island. With an area of only 1.5 square miles, it is the least populated of the Grenadines with a population of less than 300 people.

Mayreau is home to a small fishing village, Saline Bay, which is the main settlement on the island. It is a popular destination for tourists, who come to experience its white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and vibrant reefs. There is also a small Catholic church, Our Lady of the Assumption, which is a popular destination for visitors.

The island is surrounded by reefs and is situated in a sheltered bay, making it an ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling and other water sports. There are also a number of hiking trails that offer stunning views of the Grenadines.

Mayreau has a long history, dating back to the 17th century when it was first colonized by the French. The island was later taken over by the British, who built a fort on the island to protect their interests in the region. During the 18th century, the island was used as a base for the British Navy, and later as a refuge for runaway slaves.

Today, Mayreau is a popular tourist destination and is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Grenadines. With its pristine beaches, lush vegetation and vibrant reefs, it is a paradise for those who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
