Neiafu

Neiafu is a city located in the Vavaʻu group of islands in the Kingdom of Tonga. The city is the administrative capital of the Vavaʻu district and is located on the main island of Vavaʻu, the largest of the islands in the group. It is situated on the south-eastern coast of the island, on the shore of the Port of Refuge harbor. The city has a population of approximately 4,000 people, making it the second-largest city in Tonga after the capital, Nukuʻalofa.

Neiafu is known for its picturesque harbor, which is surrounded by lush, green hills and the crystal-clear waters of the South Pacific Ocean. The harbor is a popular destination for sailors and tourists, and is home to many of the island's resorts and marinas. The city also has a number of historical sites, including the Haʻamonga ʻa Maui, a stone trilithon that is believed to be the oldest stone structure in the Pacific Islands.

The city has a rich history, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the 12th century. During the 19th century, Neiafu was a major trading port for whalers and traders from Europe and the United States. In 1845, the city was the site of a major battle between the Tongan royal army and the forces of the British Empire. The battle, known as the Battle of Neiafu, ended in a decisive victory for the Tongan forces.

Today, Neiafu is a popular tourist destination, and is home to a number of resorts, restaurants, and other attractions. The city is known for its vibrant culture and friendly locals, making it a great place to visit for those looking to experience the unique culture of Tonga.
