Gaeta is a coastal city in the Lazio region of central Italy. It is located on the south-central coast of the country, about halfway between Rome and Naples. The city is situated on a rocky promontory that juts out into the Tyrrhenian Sea, and is surrounded by a number of small islands.

Gaeta has a long and storied history, having been inhabited since the 8th century BC.
