The city is known for its traditional pottery and crafts, and is home to the largest fishing port in the country.

Safi is located on a bay at the mouth of the Oued Sebou River, about 200 miles from the capital city of Rabat. It was later taken by the Portuguese in the 16th century, and then by the Spanish in the 18th century. In the 19th century, it became a major trading center, and was then taken by the French in 1912. During World War II, Safi was the site of a major Allied victory, when the British and American forces liberated the city from the Germans.

Today, Safi is a vibrant and modern city, with a strong economy and a thriving tourism industry. It is also home to a number of universities and colleges, and is a popular destination for students from all over the world.
