Port Chalmers is a small port town in the Otago region of New Zealand's South Island. It is located on the Otago Harbour, approximately 12 km northeast of the city of Dunedin, and is the main port of the region.
The town of Port Chalmers was established in 1844, and was initially a whaling station. The town has a long history of shipbuilding, fishing, and trading, and it was the first port of call for the first steamship to visit New Zealand.
The town has a population of around 3,000 people, and its main industries are tourism, fishing, and shipping.
