Milford Sound is a stunning fiord located on the South Island of New Zealand. The area has a rich Maori history, with the local Maori people having inhabited the area for hundreds of years. The Maori name for the fiord is Piopiotahi, which means ‘one single piopio bird’, referring to the now extinct native bird that was once found in the area.
