Manila

Manila is the capital city of the Philippines, located on the eastern shore of Manila Bay in the western portion of Luzon Island. It is the largest city in the country with a population of over 1.8 million people. Manila is a major cultural, economic, and educational center in the Philippines, and is home to many of the country's most important landmarks.

Geographically, Manila is situated in a large delta, with the Pasig River running through the center of the city. The city is bordered by the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, and is surrounded by the Manila Bay. The city is known for its tropical monsoon climate, with temperatures ranging from the low 20s Celsius in the winter months to the high 30s Celsius in the summer months.

Manila has a long and storied history. It was first settled by the Tagalog people in the 12th century, and was later conquered by the Spanish in 1571. During the Spanish colonial period, Manila became the political, economic, and religious center of the Philippines. In 1898, the city was captured by the United States during the Spanish-American War, and remained a US territory until 1946.

In the 20th century, Manila experienced considerable economic growth, and today it is the most populous city in the Philippines. The city is home to a number of important landmarks, including the Manila Cathedral, the Rizal Park, and the Intramuros district. Additionally, Manila is a major hub for international trade, and is home to many of the country's largest corporations.
