Dill is a small town located in the northeast region of Slovenia. It is situated in the lower part of the Dravinja Valley, on the right side of the Dravinja River. Dill was first mentioned in documents in 1262, when it was a possession of the Counts of Ortenburg. During the Middle Ages, it was an important trading center and a center of crafts. The town was also the seat of a parish, which was established in the 16th century.

In the 18th century, Dill was the center of a large estate owned by the Counts of Kuefstein. The estate included several villages and the nearby towns of Šentilj and Zgornja Dravinja. In the 19th century, Dill was the seat of a district court.
