Homer is a city in the Kenai Peninsula Borough of the U.S. state of Alaska. Located on the southern shore of Kachemak Bay on the Kenai Peninsula, Homer is about 225 miles (362 km) southwest of Anchorage. It is named after Homer Pennock, a gold-rush era miner.

Homer is located at the tip of the Homer Spit, a narrow 4.5 mile (7.2 km) long piece of land jutting out into Kachemak Bay. The city is renowned for its stunning views of the bay, the mountains, and the nearby glaciers.

The area has been inhabited for thousands of years by the Dena'ina people. The first non-native settlers arrived in the late 1800s during the gold rush. It was incorporated as a city in 1964.
