Kiska Harbor

Kiska Harbor is a small harbor located on Kiska Island in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The harbor is surrounded by the Bering Sea, and is located at the easternmost point of the Aleutian Islands.

Kiska Harbor was discovered by Russian explorer Vitus Bering in 1741. It was used as a base for Russian fur traders and was eventually annexed by the United States in 1867. During World War II, Kiska Harbor was the site of a major battle between American and Japanese forces. In June 1942, Japanese forces invaded the Aleutian Islands and occupied Kiska Harbor. This marked the first time that American soil had been invaded since the War of 1812. American forces were eventually able to retake the harbor in August 1943.
