Groote Eylandt is an island in the Gulf of Carpentaria in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is the largest island in the gulf and is located east of Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory. It is the homeland of the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the island.
Groote Eylandt measures about 50 km from east to west, and is 25 km from north to south. It is separated from the mainland by the Gulf of Carpentaria and is about 600 km east of Darwin.
