Itilleq is a small settlement located in the municipality of Kujalleq in southern Greenland. It is situated on the southeastern coast of the country, near the mouth of the Itilleq Fjord. Itilleq has a population of about 160 people, mostly Inuit, and is one of the oldest settlements in Greenland.
Itilleq is a remote community, with limited access to the outside world. It is only accessible by boat, and the nearest airport is located in the nearby town of Qaqortoq. The village is surrounded by mountains and glaciers, and the landscape is dotted with small lakes and streams.
The history of Itilleq dates back to the early 1700s when it was first settled by Inuit people. In 1721, the Danish-Norwegian explorer Vitus Bering visited the village and named it “Itilleq” after the local Inuit word for “place of peace.”
