The island is home to the Komodo dragon, the world’s largest living species of lizard, as well as other rare and endangered species. It is also known for its stunning landscapes, featuring rugged hills, white sand beaches, and crystal clear waters.

Komodo is located in the southern part of the Lesser Sunda Islands, between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores. It is roughly 70 kilometers long and 30 kilometers wide, with a total area of 1,817 square kilometers. The island is surrounded by coral reefs, which make it a popular spot for snorkeling and diving. In the 16th century, the island was visited by the Portuguese explorer Antonio de Abreu. The island was also visited by Dutch and English traders in the 18th century, who established trading posts on the island. In the 19th century, the island was annexed by the Dutch East Indies.

In 1980, Komodo National Park was established to protect the island’s unique wildlife. It is now a popular tourist destination, with visitors coming to see the Komodo dragons, as well as the other wildlife and stunning landscapes.
