Tsushima

Tsushima is an island located in the Sea of Japan, between the Japanese mainland and the Korean Peninsula. It is part of the Nagasaki Prefecture and is the closest Japanese island to the Korean Peninsula. The island has a total area of about 545 square kilometers and is home to around 30,000 people.

Tsushima is known for its rich history, which dates back to the sixth century. It was an important port of call for merchants and traders from China, Korea and Japan. During the Sengoku period, the island was ruled by the Ryuzoji clan, who built several castles on the island. In the Edo period, Tsushima was an important part of the Tsushima Domain and was a major hub for trade between Japan and Korea.

During the Meiji period, the island was annexed by the Japanese government and the population was forcibly relocated. In World War II, the island was the site of the Battle of Tsushima, a major naval battle between the Japanese and Russian fleets. The Japanese were victorious in the battle, which was a major turning point in the war.

Today, Tsushima is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful beaches, lush forests and historic sites. The island is also home to several shrines and temples, including the Tsushima Shrine, which is dedicated to the Ryuzoji clan. There are also several museums on the island, which showcase the island’s rich history and culture.
