Yakushima

Yakushima is an island located in the Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan. It is situated approximately 60 kilometers south of the southern tip of the Kyushu Island. The island is roughly 785 square kilometers in size and is home to a population of around 13,000.

The landscape of Yakushima is covered by lush, green forests and is home to several species of endemic flora and fauna. The island is renowned for its ancient cedar trees, some of which are estimated to be over 7,000 years old. The Yaku-sugi cedar trees are a protected species and are a popular tourist attraction.
