Maskat

Maskat is the capital and largest city of the Sultanate of Oman, located on the northeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. The city is located at the mouth of the Gulf of Oman, and is bordered by the Al Hajar Mountains to the west and the Gulf of Oman to the east.

Maskat has been an important trading port since ancient times, and was part of the Persian Empire in the 6th century BCE. It was known as Muscat during the rule of the Portuguese in the 16th century, and was renamed Maskat by the Omani Sultan in 1793.

The city is a major port and commercial center of the region, and is home to a number of industries, including oil and gas, fishing, and manufacturing.
