Aldabra

Aldabra is an atoll in the Seychelles, located in the western Indian Ocean. It is the largest raised coral atoll in the world, with a total area of 155 square kilometers. It is composed of four large coral islands and numerous small islets. The four main islands are Picard, Polymnie, Malabar, and Grande Terre.

Aldabra is home to some of the world’s rarest and most endangered species, including the Aldabra giant tortoise, which is the largest tortoise species in the world. The atoll is also home to many species of birds, including the white-tailed tropicbird, the fairy tern, and the red-footed booby.

Aldabra is part of the Seychelles archipelago, which is located in the western Indian Ocean, approximately 1,000 kilometers east of mainland Africa. The atoll is located at 4° 32' S, 55° 28' E.

Aldabra has a long and interesting history. It was first visited by Arab traders in the 9th century, and later by Portuguese and French explorers. In the late 18th century, the British established a small settlement on the atoll. In 1868, the British declared Aldabra a wildlife sanctuary, making it one of the oldest protected areas in the world. In 1982, Aldabra was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Today, Aldabra is a popular tourist destination, with visitors coming from all over the world to witness the beauty of the atoll and its rich biodiversity.
