Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and is located in the south-central part of the country on the east coast of the Baltic Sea. It is the largest city in Sweden and the most populous city in the Nordic region.

In 1720, the Swedish parliament declared Stockholm the capital of the Swedish Empire. In 1809, Sweden was forced to cede Finland to Russia in the Treaty of Fredrikshamn.

Stockholm is home to many significant cultural institutions, including the Royal Swedish Opera, the Royal Swedish Ballet, and the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. The city is also home to the Nobel Prize ceremony, held annually at the Concert Hall.
