Mahé

Mahé is the largest and most populous island in the Seychelles, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean. It is located about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) east of the African continent, and about 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) southwest of India. Mahé is home to the capital city of Victoria, known as Port Victoria, which is the only deep-water harbor in the Seychelles.

Mahé is a mountainous island, with a central mountain range that rises to 905 meters (2,969 feet) at its highest point. The island is covered in lush tropical rainforest, and is home to many species of plants and animals, including the rare Seychelles black parrot.

Victoria is the largest city in the Seychelles, and is home to the majority of the country’s population. It is located on the northeast coast of Mahé, and is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful beaches, stunning views of the Indian Ocean, and vibrant culture.

Port Victoria has a rich history, and has been a major trading hub since the 18th century. The city was the site of the first French settlement in the Seychelles in 1770, and was later occupied by the British from 1810 to 1976. The city was also the site of a major naval battle between the French and British fleets in 1794.

Today, Mahé and Port Victoria remain an important part of the Seychelles, and are a popular destination for tourists. The island is home to a vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and a unique mix of African, Indian, and European influences.
