Maó

Maó is a city located in the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands, on the eastern end of the island of Menorca. The city is the capital of the island, and is known for its great natural beauty, with its horseshoe-shaped harbor, and its old cobblestone streets and squares.

Maó is the largest city in Menorca, with a population of approximately 30,000 inhabitants. It is located in the south-east of the island, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, and is a popular tourist destination. The city is divided into two parts, the old city, or Ciutat Vella, with its characteristic cobblestone streets and old buildings, and the modern part, or Ciutat Nova, which is more modern and has a more modern infrastructure.

The city of Maó has a long and interesting history. It was founded in the 13th century by the Arabs, and was later conquered by the Catalans and the Spanish. During the 18th century, the city was a major naval base for the Spanish Navy, and was used as a strategic port for the Spanish Empire. During the 19th century, the city became an important trading center for the island, and was the center of the Menorcan economy.

Today, Maó is a major tourist destination, with many attractions, such as the old city, the harbor, and the beaches. The city is also known for its excellent cuisine, with many restaurants, bars, and cafes. Maó is also known for its festivals, such as the annual Maó Jazz Festival, and the famous Menorca Horse Festival.
