Wrangell is a city located in the southeastern corner of Alaska, USA. It is situated on the northern shore of Wrangell Island, on the southern end of the Alexander Archipelago. The city is surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and the Stikine River. Wrangell is one of the oldest cities in Alaska, with a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century.

The first recorded inhabitants of Wrangell were the Tlingit people, who had lived in the area since before recorded history. In 1834, the Russian-American Company, a Russian fur trading company, established a trading post in Wrangell. This post served as the center of trade for the region and was the first permanent European settlement in Alaska.

In the late 19th century, Wrangell became a major port for the Alaska-Yukon gold rush. Thousands of prospectors and miners flocked to the area, and the city’s population and economy grew rapidly.

In the early 20th century, Wrangell was the site of a major battle between the United States and Canada over ownership of the Stikine River. This dispute was eventually resolved in favor of the United States, and the river remains a major transportation route for the city.

Today, Wrangell is a small city with a population of around 2,500 people.
