Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez is a commune in the Var department of southeastern France. It is located on the French Riviera, along the Mediterranean Sea coast. The town is known for its beautiful beaches, its glamorous nightlife, and its picturesque harbor.

Saint-Tropez is situated on the French Riviera, approximately 50 km (30 mi) west of Nice and 100 km (62 mi) east of Marseille. It is surrounded by the communes of La Croix-Valmer, Ramatuelle, and Gassin. The commune covers an area of 34.7 km² (13.4 sq mi) and has a population of 5,737 (as of 2017).

Saint-Tropez has a long and varied history. It was first inhabited by the Ligurians, then the Greeks, who called the area "Tarousso". Later, the Romans built a port here, known as "Torpes". In the Middle Ages, the area was under the control of the Counts of Provence and the Knights Templar. In 1558, the French King Henry II granted the town its first charter.

In the 19th century, Saint-Tropez became a popular holiday destination for the French aristocracy. It also became known for its fishing industry and its production of wines. In the 1950s, the town was popularized by French actor and director Roger Vadim, who made the town a filming location for his movie "And God Created Woman".

Today, Saint-Tropez is a popular tourist destination for both French and international visitors. It is particularly well-known for its beautiful beaches, its vibrant nightlife, and its luxurious restaurants and cafes. It is also home to many prestigious art galleries and shops, as well as a number of historical sites.
