Bremerhaven is a city located in the northern part of Germany, on the coast of the North Sea. It is part of the state of Bremen, and is the second largest city in the state after the city of Bremen. Bremerhaven is situated on the Weser River estuary, which connects the city to the North Sea. It is one of the most important ports in Germany, and is home to a number of important industries, such as fishing and shipbuilding.

The city of Bremerhaven was founded in 1827 by the Kingdom of Hanover as a port of refuge for the Hanseatic League. It was originally called "Geestemünde", which means "mouth of the river Geeste". The city was later renamed to Bremerhaven in 1847, after the city of Bremen.

Bremerhaven has a long history of immigration, and it was the primary point of entry for German immigrants to the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It was also the site of a major Allied bombing raid in 1945, during World War II.
