The island is known for its lush vegetation and mountainous terrain. La Palma is home to two national parks, Caldera de Taburiente National Park and Los Tilos de María National Park. During this time, the island became an important trading hub for the Spanish Empire. The island was also used as a stopover for ships travelling from Spain to the Americas.
In the 19th century, the island became an important agricultural center, producing sugar, wine, and other products. La Palma also became a popular destination for wealthy Europeans, who built luxurious residences on the island.
Today, La Palma is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant nightlife. The island is also home to a number of festivals and events, including the annual Carnival of La Palma.
