Colombo

Colombo is the largest city and the commercial, industrial, and cultural capital of Sri Lanka. It is located on the west coast of the island, on the Gulf of Mannar and the Indian Ocean. Colombo is the administrative capital of the Western Province and also the legislative capital of Sri Lanka.

The city is home to some of the most important landmarks in Sri Lanka, such as the Galle Face Green, the National Museum, and the Old Parliament Building. Colombo is also a major port city, connecting Sri Lanka to the world.

Colombo has a tropical climate, with temperatures ranging from the low 70s to the mid-80s Fahrenheit. The city is divided into 15 local government bodies, each of which is responsible for providing basic services to its citizens.

Colombo has a rich history, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the 5th century BC. In 1505, the Portuguese arrived in Colombo and built a fort. The Dutch then took control of the city in 1656, and it remained a Dutch colony until 1796. In 1815, the British took control of Colombo and it remained a British colony until 1948.

Throughout its history, Colombo has been an important trading port and has been the site of many battles. In 1983, the Sri Lankan Civil War began in Colombo and lasted until 2009. Since then, the city has been rebuilding and is now an important center of culture and industry in Sri Lanka.
