Saint Martin

Saint Martin is an island located in the Caribbean Sea, part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago. It is divided into two parts, the northern part being the French Overseas Collectivity of Saint-Martin, and the southern part being the Dutch Sint Maarten. The island is only 37 square miles, making it one of the smallest islands in the world to be divided between two countries.

The island is located just to the east of Puerto Rico, and is separated from the island of Anguilla by the Anguilla Channel. It is surrounded by a number of small islands and islets, including the Dutch islands of Saba and Sint Eustatius.

The island has a rich history. It was first inhabited by the Arawak people, who were the first indigenous people to inhabit the Caribbean. The Spanish later colonized the island in the 16th century and named it San Martín. In 1648, the Treaty of Concordia divided the island between the French and Dutch. The French portion became known as Saint-Martin, and the Dutch portion became known as Sint Maarten.

The island is known for its beautiful beaches, as well as its duty-free shopping. It is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with many bars and clubs located along the waterfront.

In recent years, the island has been hit by a number of hurricanes, including Hurricane Irma in 2017, which caused extensive damage to the island. Despite this, the island has made a strong recovery, and is now a popular tourist destination.
