Chatham is a town in the Medway area of Kent, England. Located on the south bank of the River Medway, it is approximately 50 miles southeast of London and 20 miles east of Maidstone. The town has a population of around 95,000 people and is the administrative centre for the Medway Unitary Authority.

Chatham is home to the historic Chatham Dockyard, which was a major naval base for over 400 years. It was founded in the 16th century and served as a base for the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars and the two World Wars. Today, the dockyard is a popular tourist attraction and includes the Historic Dockyard Museum and a number of preserved ships.

During the Middle Ages, Chatham was a thriving port and market town, and was the site of a major naval battle in 1667.

In the 19th century, Chatham was an important industrial centre for the production of paper, bricks and cement. The town also had a major shipbuilding industry and was the birthplace of the famous novelist Charles Dickens in 1812.

Today, Chatham is a bustling town with a vibrant cultural and retail scene. It is home to a number of popular attractions, including the Dickens World theme park and the Royal Engineers Museum.
