Chatham is a town in the Medway area of Kent, England. Located on the south bank of the River Medway, it is approximately 50 miles southeast of London and 20 miles east of Maidstone. The town has a population of around 95,000 people and is the administrative centre for the Medway Unitary Authority.
Chatham is home to the historic Chatham Dockyard, which was a major naval base for over 400 years. It was founded in the 16th century and served as a base for the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars and the two World Wars.
