Le Havre is a city in France located in the northwest region of the country, in the Seine-Maritime department. It is situated at the mouth of the Seine River, on the English Channel. With a population of over 200,000, it is the second-largest city in Normandy after Rouen.

Le Havre is an important port city, and has been a major trading hub since the Middle Ages. It is home to the world’s largest artificial harbor and is a major gateway for international trade. The city is also a major tourist destination, with its beaches, museums, and monuments.

The area has been inhabited since the 5th century BC, when it was known as the Gaulish town of Leucetius. In the 11th century, the city was renamed Le Havre, after a castle built by the Count of Eu. It was an important port during the Hundred Years’ War, and was later fortified by Louis XIV.

During World War II, Le Havre was heavily damaged by Allied bombing raids, with much of the city destroyed. After the war, the city was rebuilt in a modern style, with wide boulevards and a new port.

Today, Le Havre is a vibrant city with a strong economy, based on its port, tourism, and manufacturing. It is also home to several universities, making it an important educational center.
